The Book Of Mormon Grand Rapids reviews
Transcendent...not
I look for two things when I attend any type of performance....entertainment and transformation. One a scale of 1 to 5, for me, The Book of Mormon scored a 1 for entertainment value. On a scale of 1 to 5, for me, The Book of Mormon scored a minus 10 for being utterly void of any transformative value. It was puerile and the characters lacked depth. I came away feeling that it had robbed me of 2.5 hours of my life. What a disappointment. Usually I do some research about what I plan to see before purchasing tickets but didn't this time and it was a mistake I will not make again.
Lovers of the offensive, insane and inappropriate rejoice!
The Eugene O'Neill Theatre is a beautiful space and is just the right size. We sat in Orchestra Left, row H, seats 1 and 3 and had a great view. The show was hilarious and the acoustics were fantastic. Cody Jamison Strand as Elder Cunningham is a riot, and I especially enjoyed Jake Morissy as Elder McKinley. If you are a fan of South Park and are not easily offended by ANYTHING I think you will enjoy it too. Everything is fair game including AIDS, female circumcision, homosexuality, God, Sci-fi, you name it. This is not your typical musical, so sit back and enjoy the ride.
